QUITO, July 13 (Xinhua) -- As many as 20,000 local potential customers are expected to visit the first China Motor Expo in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil this week.

The expo, inaugurated on Thursday and will last until Sunday, displays more than 25 automobile models from 18 Chinese brands and attracts many visitors interested in the Chinese product range.

"Since the opening day we had more than 1,000 visitors, and we hope the number could reach 20,000 during the four days of the fair," Jose Antonio Hidalgo, president of the Ecuadorian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, told Xinhua.

Hidalgo, also the organizer of the event, celebrated Chinese brands' receptiveness among Ecuadorians, who he said value the innovative technology and good price-range of the Chinese vehicles.

"The good response is reflected in Chinese brands' share in the market," he said.

In 2007, Chinese brands had only 3 percent share of the Ecuadorian auto market, in contrast with the current 15 percent.

Last year, 11 out of 15 new vehicle brands that entered the Ecuadorian market were Chinese and 137,000 Chinese vehicles were sold, according to Hidalgo.
