MAPUTO, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Strong winds with speed up to 70 kilometers per hour accompanied by gusts might hit central and southern Mozambique from Saturday afternoon until Sunday, the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) of Mozambique said Saturday.

A statement by INAM released to the national radio said coastal areas in the provinces of Sofala, Inhambane, Gaza and Maputo could be affected and appropriate precautionary measures are recommended.

INAM warned through the radio that the winds could affect maritime navigation with waves up to 4 meters high.

"The World Meteorological Organization warned on April in Maputo that Cyclones Idai and Kenneth, which hit Mozambique in March and April this year, should serve as a warning for the impact of tropical cyclones, coastal floods and heavy rains linked to the climate changes," said the statement.

Earlier this month, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guteres said during his visit to the country that Mozambique is the second most vulnerable country in the world to climate changes.
