DAMASCUS, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Corrupt members of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were caught smuggling women with the Islamic State (IS) from a camp in northeastern Syria, a war monitor reported Saturday.

Two SDF members were caught at a checkpoint in the city of Manbij in the northern province of Aleppo while attempting to smuggle out five women who are members of the IS, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The UK-based watchdog group said the SDF rounded up the two corrupt members, who were smuggling the IS women in exchange for 10,000 U.S. dollars each.

The women were smuggled out of the al-Hol camp in the northeastern province of Hasakah, said the Observatory, adding that it's not the first time such smuggling attempts take place in that camp.

It's worth noting that the al-Hol camp is largely inhabited by family members and fighters of the IS group, particularly after the defeats of IS in eastern Syria.

The SDF, which is backed by the United States, has made strides in the battles against IS later last year and earlier this year.

The SDF is also controlling much of al-Hasakah and the al-Hol camp is also controlled by this Kurdish-led group.
