NAIROBI, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Kenya basketball teams will compete at the Africa Games following the withdrawal of Togo and Uganda.

Kenya Basketball Federation vice president Hilmi Ali said the Games organizing committee has assured of Kenya inclusion to bridge the gap left by Togo and Uganda.

"We are now waiting for the outcome of the technical meeting where the draw will be done. Certainly Kenya will participate now that Uganda and Togo are out," said Ali on Sunday.

During the zonal qualifiers for the Africa Games, Kenya lost to Uganda in women's and Egypt in the men's tournament held in Kampala in July.

Only the top 12 teams are allowed to compete and Kenya is ranked 13th in Africa after Niger, Uganda, Togo, Egypt, Senegal, Mali, Cote d'Ivoire, Madagascar, Tunisia, Niger and Botswana.

The Africa Games, to be started on August 19, is taken as qualifiers for 17 out of its 26 sports in the continent for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
