NEW YORK, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Magda Linette claimed her first WTA title Saturday, beating Camila Giorgi 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 in the final of the Bronx Open.

Ranked No. 80 in the world, Linette, Poland, had to win three rounds of qualifying to reach the main draw in the Bronx. She defeated 9th-ranked Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 10th ranked Karolina Muchova and 5th ranked Katerina Siniakova before her clash with Giorgi, who beat Linette in their only previous meeting at the Pole's home tournament in Katowice in 2015.

This pair was caught in a close battle. Giorgi clinched the first set but her consecutive faults gave Linette the chance to level the score.

Besides this failure, Giorgi was previously defeated in Washington this month. She shined at the semifinals, fighting off three match points in a third-set tiebreaker to beat top-seeded Wang Qiang from China, but lost to the Linette Saturday and remained with two career titles.
