BEIRUT, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun warned on Monday that Israeli attacks against Lebanon may lead to worsening security in the country, Lebanon's Presidency website reported.

"If Israel repeats its attacks against Lebanon, we will have to protect our sovereignty by retaliating" despite Lebanon's previous commitment not to start any attack against Israel, Aoun said during his meeting with the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Yan Kubish.

Sunday's attack "over Beirut's southern suburbs gives us the right to retaliate and defend our territories, sovereignty and independence," Aoun noted, adding that the attack clearly violated the UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

An Israeli drone crashed over the southern suburbs of Lebanon's capital Beirut on early Sunday morning, while a second drone exploded in the air, causing severe damage to a media center of Hezbollah.

The Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah vowed after the attack that his fighters will bring down any Israeli drone that violates Lebanese airspace.
