HUAMBO, Angola, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Angola remains the Southern African Development Community (SADC) country with the lowest rate of access to information through television and radio, an official said here on Friday.

The fact was revealed by Secretary of State for Social Communication Celso Malavoloneke during a Forum of Municipalities and Cities of Angola taking place here in the capital of the central Huambo Province.

The current figures are quite low and worrying due to constraints, such as the lack of electricity and emission receivers as well as challenges of broadening the signals of these media, which would allow greater access to information by the poorer population, he said.

Despite the installation of a set of radio repeaters, the equipment is still insufficient, the official said.

The biggest problem is the financial situation of citizens which hinders them to acquire the means to have access to television contents, he said.

SADC is a regional economic community comprising 16 member states. Established in 1992, it is committed to regional integration and poverty reduction within Southern Africa through economic development and ensuring peace and security.
