BEIRUT, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Tuesday called on Arab countries to support Lebanon in overcoming its political and economic difficulties, Lebanon presidency's website reported.

"We hope to receive economic support from Arab countries during the prevailing complicated situation," Aoun said, explaining the sensitivity of the Lebanese system amid calls from protesters.

Aoun's remarks came during his meeting with ambassadors of Arab countries in Lebanon.

He briefed the ambassadors about the economic paper proposed by the resigned government as well as other initiatives to reach an agreement with protesters.

The ambassadors said they will convey Aoun's message, especially his call for economic support, to Arab leaders.

The Lebanese president is facing a challenge of starting parliamentary consultations to name a new prime minister after the resignation of caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri amid national protests.

Lebanon has been facing difficult economic challenges as the authorities are unable to implement serious reforms to save the country's deteriorating economy.
