New JFK doc says President was shot by CIA secret agent
A TV documentary has sensationally claimed that US president John F Kennedy was accidentally killed by a secret service agent.
JFK: The Smoking Gun — due to be released in November — claims agent George Hickey fired from the car immediately behind Kennedy’s in the chaos of the initial shooting.
The Warren Commission’s investigation, which lasted ten months, concluded assassin Lee Harvey Oswald was acting alone.
But later investigations and conspiracy theories — including Oliver Stone’s 1991 movie JFK — have claimed a second gunman may have been involved.
Now independent US cable broadcaster ReelzChannel has named its prime suspect — agent Hickey — who it says clumsily blasted JFK.
Its documentary uses evidence from author Bonar Menninger, who first set out his theory in 1992 book Mortal Error: The Shot That Killed JFK.
Retired Australian detective Colin McLaren also contributed to the programme.
McLaren, speaking at a Television Critics Association meeting in California, said: “We believe it wasn’t intentional but a tragic accident.
“The lone gunman theory is nonsense and always has been.”
Hickey, who sued Menninger’s publisher St Martin’s Press and reached a settlement, died two years ago.
Kennedy was killed on November 22, 1963 aged 46 in Dallas, Texas.
