Multan International Airport in E. Pakistan evacuated over bomb scare

ISLAMABAD, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Multan International Airport in eastern Pakistan was evacuated on Tuesday due to a security alert over a bomb threat, local Urdu media reported.

According to the reports, law enforcement agencies evacuated the airport following a phone call about the presence of bomb at the international airport in Multan, a city in the country's eastern Punjab province.

Security forces along with bomb disposal squad of police rushed to the spot and launched a search operation at the airport.

The airport authorities have confirmed that police have found a suspicious package, adding that the security forces declared the area clear as they found fireworks material in the package.

Police said that the suspicious material was recovered from the cargo area at the airport.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, according to police.
