TEHRAN, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry on Monday welcomed the recent UN Security Council decision on a cease-fire in Syria.

The death of the innocent people is never welcomed by anybody, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said, expressing the hope that the UN Security Council's recent resolution would establish cease-fire in every part of Syria.

"We hope that this (truce) will pave the ground for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people," Qasemi said in his weekly press briefing.

"The implementation of the truce will hopefully reduce the violence in Syria," he added.

On Saturday, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution to establish a 30-day nationwide cease-fire in Syria "without delay" to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected people in Eastern Ghouta and other hotspots across the country.

The resolution, however, excluded the military operations against Islamic State group and the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front from the cessation of hostilities.

Iran's Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Baqeri said Sunday that Tehran and Damascus would honor the cease-fire resolution in Syria that the UN Security Council approved unanimously.
