RIO DE JANEIRO, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Sergio Cabral, a former governor of Brazil's Rio de Janeiro state, was found guilty of money laundering on Friday and sentenced to 13 more years in prison.

It is the fifth time Cabral has been found guilty of crimes of corruption and money laundering. Together, his jail term amounts to over 100 years.

Judge Marcelo Bretas, who judged four of the five cases, said Cabral is a mastermind of a large corruption and money laundering scheme in Rio state.

"The size of the scheme is impressive, especially due to the amount of money moved. In this case, over 4 million reals (1.23 million U.S. dollars) were laundered in only five jewelry purchase operations," said the judge.

Cabral's wife Adriana Ancelmo was also found guilty and sentenced to 10 years and eight months in prison. His two accomplices, Carlos Miranda and Luiz Carlos Bezerra, were sentenced to eight and four years of jail respectively.
