THE HAGUE, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Dutch league leaders PSV had a perfect weekend with a narrow win at VVV-Venlo on Sunday and rivals Ajax losing at AZ.

PSV had a difficult Sunday afternoon at VVV-Venlo. The Eredivisie leaders had most ball possession and some chances, but had to wait until the 86th minute for the liberating opening goal. Hirving Lozano dribbled himself a way towards the VVV goal and found the corner of the goal. It was already the 17th PSV goal in the last five minutes of a match this season.

The three points for PSV meant Ajax needed a win too at AZ. However AZ was the better team in Alkmaar and Ajax had a minor day. Guus Til became the match winner after Ajax failed to get the ball away from a corner and the AZ captain volleyed in in the 56th minute. It meant the first win for AZ against one of the Dutch traditional top three teams (Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord) since January 24, 2016 (17 games without a win).

With 62 points in total, Ajax now trail PSV by five points after 26 rounds. After the forthcoming period of international soccer, Ajax host PSV in Amsterdam on March 31. Feyenoord, which lost 3-2 at home to Willem II on Saturday, are third with 47 points, the same as AZ, but Feyenoord have a slightly better goal difference.
