HAIKOU, May 9 (Xinhua) -- People's mediation organizations in China resolved 9.53 million disputes in 2018 with a success rate of 97.9 percent, according to a national mediation work conference Thursday.
People's mediation is a Chinese way of resolving contradictions and settling disputes without resorting to legal proceedings.
The country has established people's mediation committees in village (neighborhood) committees, townships or towns (urban districts), enterprises and public institutions, as well as industries and sectors with a high occurrence of disputes.
China has more than 750,000 people's mediation committees, more than 40,000 sectoral and professional mediation organizations and 3.5 million mediators.
The Ministry of Justice said at the conference that a mediation work system will be formed in 2022, in which the people's mediation serves as the foundation and is in coordination with administrative, sectoral and professional and judicial mediation.
