SANAA, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen launched a series of airstrikes on rebel-held sites in the capital Sanaa on Saturday morning, residents said.

The airstrikes targeted a military camp and the adjoining Information Ministry in downtown Sanaa.

There were no reports of casualties yet.

Meanwhile, the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television cited a coalition's statement as saying that the airstrikes targeted sites of air defense and a depot of ballistic missiles in Sanaa.

The airstrikes came three days after Saudi Arabia's air defenses intercepted and destroyed bomb-laden drones launched by Houthi rebels toward Jizan airport in the southwest of the kingdom, according to Saudi state media.

The Houthi forces have recently stepped up missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, but most of the missiles and drones were intercepted by Saudi air forces.

Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab military coalition against the Iran-allied Houthis in Yemen for more than four years in support of the exiled internationally-recognized government of Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
